EDUCATION

In the sector of education, rapid steps of progress have been made in Safita, as there are no analphabets since1984. There are six Municipal schools, three High schools and three Lyceums. The Lyceums are divided in practical and theoretical sections; there is also a Technicians’ Lyceum, a Mechanics’ and a Commercials’ one. In an article of Al Arabi journal, Safita, Marmarita and Saouda are reported as three Arabic cities with the highest rate of education. The last ones are located not away from Safita. Many students get a higher education attending courses in superior educational institutions in order to become schoolteachers, lawyers, doctors etc. Due to the fact that those educated people exceed the working needs of the town, they immigrate to various parts of the country or even abroad. Famous scientists come from Safita such as Fouad Bashour who was the doctor of the president of U.S.A Aizenhaouer, the famous Cardiologist Mamdouh Bitar in Germany, Dr Chalil Samaan professor of Arabic history in a university of U.S.A, Dr Tzozef Chouri professor in the American university of Beirut and others.
